The Future of Consumer Intelligence?

I’ve spent today at a really interesting event in Manchester on Surveying 2.0 – Digital Technologies, Market Intelligence and Social Media.

One fictitious video that was shown which I felt was both amusing and potentially alarming in equal measures was the following from Roger Burrows, Professor of Sociology at the University of York and programme co-ordinator for e-Society:

    Interesting video, and something that is actually not all that unrealistic these days. It’s possible to get at least some of that information from, say, a person’s Facebook profile, and the technological trends can only be towards more personal data being made public.

    Hi Rob,

    I totally agree, and it was part of the debate yesterday as to how much of our personal information should be made available to service providers and the general public.

    Public information is much more freely available in the US, and a few interesting sites were shown which if a similar model existed in the UK, the ‘vigilantes’ across the country would have a field day, if you get what I’m saying!

    A fascinating area indeed, especially with the continued move to more open and shared databases of personal information.
